Advisory Board Members

Webcaster Alliance Advisory Board Member Sandy Andina is a Chicago singer, songwriter, and musician who carries humor, insight, and years of life experience on stage with her. Many also know her as an attorney and political volunteer, but music is and has always been her first love.

Sandy tried her hand at folk music in her college days, but put her musical career on hold while she attended law school and began practicing law in the Seattle suburbs. When she moved to Chicago and became an Assistant Illinois Attorney General, began to embrace music anew—first as a writer and then performing at open mikes (with gentle prodding by Chicago folk legends Anne Hills, Jan Burda, and Cindy Mangsen).

Sandy performed on the local folk circuit, teaching mountain dulcimer at Hogeye Music in Evanston, Illinois and sang her funniest songs at various comedy clubs. She became the opening act at the Comedy Womb in Lyons. That led to a featured role on The Preppy Comedy Album (Eclipse Records), including the album's centerpiece, The Preppy Anthem, which she not only penned, but sang. She was a regular performer as Steve Rich's singing and acting partner on his weekly comedy radio program in Brookfield, Illinois. Several years passed while Sandy returned to motherhood, private law practice, and volunteer work.

Sandy soon found herself back in the music business, appearing as an opener and solo act at bars and coffeehouses throughout the Chicago area. She also does double duty as bassist for Emanuel Congregation's 100% Kosher Ham-It-Up Band, playing jazz, Broadway, and klezmer standards, occasionally taking a lead vocal. Sandy has been tapped to record two of her songs for the Chicago-themed compilation (W)Indie City, released in 2001.

Twenty years after his song "It's Your Day, Sugar Ray" launched his career when it was played on the airwaves during the Olympics and Sugar Ray Leonard's matches with Roberto Duran, Webcaster Alliance Advisory Board Member Slyy can't get local radio stations to play his R&B songs. After growing frustrated with local stations, the Mitchellville musician has created Netwebrecords, an Internet radio station whose playlist is totally under his control. Now, rather than knocking heads with music directors, Slyy is channeling his energies into playing music by artists who have had similar problems gaining exposure.

Now, Slyy's songs get plenty of airplay on Netwebrecords, which plays a mix of jazz, rap and contemporary R&B by artists who are based locally and nationally. To help other artists gain recognition, Slyy is using knowledge and connections culled from 20 years of touring with his cousin Frankie Beverly and his group, Maze, and others, including Prince and Chaka Khan.

"A lot of people get pushed around in the music business," Slyy said. "They are mad they can't get a deal, and they like the idea that we're bucking the system." Slyy's radio station can be heard at www.netwebrecords.com.

Webcaster Alliance Advisory Board Member Jimmy D. Lane has worked with Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Jim Keltner. He has also worked with venerable blues greats such as Sam Lay, Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell, Dave Meyers and of course, his father, the legendary and unfortunately late, Jimmy Rogers.

Born on the Fourth of July in Chicago, he grew up in a household where he became acquainted with a veritable who's who of Chicago bluesmen. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Mabon, Little Walter and Albert King, to name a few, would all stop by the house to visit the "old man." Coming from this environment has instilled in Lane the deepest respect for elder statesmen of the blues.

During 1993 sessions for Bluebird for Analogue Productions, with the Jimmy Roggers Band, he met Producer John Koenig and head of Acoustic Sounds, Chad Kassem. Koenig saw the Jimmy D. Lane band at B. B. King's Club in Universal City and was floored. Koenig and Kassem got together and Jimmy made his solo recording debut in 1995 with the self titled disc on Blue Seal Records, featuring 12 originals and one of his dad's tunes.

Lane's music is on the rocking side, but is tempered with just the right amount of blues tradition. As Lane states "you can have too much water and too much fire, but with the right amount of both, you can boil an egg." Lane is a passionate blues singer, songwriter and guitarist with a deep respect for "all those old cats who were there."

In 1987 the band was honoured by the Blues Foundation in Memphis (USA) as one of the best non american white blues bands and, in 1990, they travelled to France (Normandie) representing Spain at the European Blues Festival among blues bands of France, Netherland, Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany.
